“Achieving one goal at a time as my journey to programming begins.”
I saw this quote this morning and it gave me the motivation to take action and get this blog off the ground. Thank you to Believe-toachive on tumblr.
First I would like to thank you for visiting my page. My name is Asherlee and, please bare with me since this is my first blog. A little bit about myself, I’m a mother of two from NE PA. I changed careers 3 yrs ago was in the financial industry for many years, and switched to software quality assurance. My passion for technology and, software I decided to take my passion to the next level and learn to program and build mobile applications.
The Reasons why behind this blog and focus.
I decided to start this blog to make my self accountable and to keep me motivated. However, I would also would like to share what I have learned and share the resources that I have found with other women looking to learn to code. I have been self learning the last three months. I have committed myself to learn the fundamentals, HTML,CSS, Javascript. Will tackle later JQuery to make my life easier with Javascript and Ruby/Ruby on Rails. My other primary focus is learning the Swift 2 programming language, Apple’s main programming language. My overall goal is to be a mobile developer and have my first app in the Apple store by the end of the year.
Resources I have used to keep me on track.
There are so many great sites that teach programming. For fundamentals W3 School is a great place to start. I also use Code Academy both are free. Besides those two sites I also use Udemy and Lynda for learning the fundamentals and the Swift programming language. Of course I can’t forget keeping myself motivated, especially during the times you cant get your code to work lol. I read many motivational books as well as technical books and, slot time on my calendar for everything.
Have you taught yourself to code? What tips would you pass along?
All comments and tips are greatly appreciated. Please share what resources you have used or are using and, what keeps you focus and motivated.
